Arcadia's Mystery History Hunt
Compete with other Arcadia visitors and residents to win the Grand Prize
It's that time of year again. Time for the 3rd Annual Arcadia Scavenger Hunt.
And this year's theme revolves around the mysteries of Arcadia's past.
"We had good response to last year's scavenger hunt, we thought we'd try hosting again this year," said Joyce Howard, Director of the Arcadia Area Historical Society. "It's a great chance for people to learn about what makes the area great while doing something fun."
In 1908, during an unusually bad storm, a schooner identifying itself as the Atlanta sent a general distress signal out to the greater Manistee area. The Manistee Life Saving crew was called upon for assistance, the claim being made that the Frankfort crew could not be reached. All attempts to locate the distressed vessel turned up empty, and still to this day, no record of the boat has been found.
This and many other stories were the motivation behind this year's theme and a new book Joyce is writing for the Historical Society.
The entire winning team will receive tickets to a sunset boat cruise for the evening of 4th of July and the opportunity to watch the Frankfort fireworks display from the shores of Lake Michigan.
Interested parties are asked to sign up their team captains in advance. They will receive their first clue in the mail a few days before the big hunt.
Let the games begin!!
